The dojo

This is my dojo.

Wait a minute… Where are the mats?  The punchbags?  The people in white suits shouting?

Well that’s one kind of dojo, yes.  One in which I have spent a huge portion of my adult life!  But the dojo is not exclusive to martial arts.

The word “dojo” means a place of learning.  A space where you come to develop the self.

That’s what my new dojo is for.

It’s where I sit to contemplate.  To think.  To be inspired.  It’s where I do my daily mindfulness exercise.

In a good chair, in the company of “giants”, this is where I grow.  From the person I am into the person I’m becoming.

Within arm’s reach I can:

  • Visit Middle Earth
  • Join Shackleton on his Antarctic adventures
  • Read Yeats, Whitman, Thomas (who I still struggle to understand!)
  • Learn from many of the greats of business
  • Research new and interesting topics
  • Tackle a cryptic crossword for a moment

…and many more.

So yes, in the truest sense of the word, this is a dojo too.  My place of learning.

My dojo.

Where do you go when you need to think and learn?
