A little while ago I wrote this short piece. It wasn’t intended to be poetry and I wouldn’t really presume to call it such. It was inspired largely by how I was feeling at the time, but also by one of my favourite actual poems “The Road Less Travelled” by Robert Frost. Especially the last section:
“Two roads diverged in a wood and I,
I took the road less travelled by
And that has made all the difference”
The more I read them and the longer I live, the more I realise the depth of the truth in those words.
It’s so true that choosing the harder path is where the most growth is.
Working out when you don’t want to. Rising early when others are still in bed. Sitting and writing – contributing and creating – rather than endlessly consuming and merely commentating on the work of others. Read most threads of YouTube comments and you’ll see what I mean!
Building habits around the things that you know you need to do to grow, rather than only to be comfortable, is the path to a fulfilling life. It’s the path to the life you were meant to lead. To the most incredible life that you are capable of living.
So what is the choice facing you on your own path? If two roads diverge ahead of you, which will you take?
The easy and better trodden path to comfort?
Or the harder path that leads to life and growth?
